For specific needs such as mode scrambling, we design and draw multimode fibers with special core shapes such as hexagonal, octagonal, etc…

Those fibers were drawn from ZFG (Zirconium ZrF4 Fluoride Glass) = fluorozirconate fibers
Exhibit a high transparency in UV, visible and mid-infrared from 0.3 up to 4.5µm (see graph below) :

Cut-back background losses:
  • ZFG: Typ < 20dB/km at 2.5 µm
  • IFG: Typ < 20dB/km at 3.6 µm
  • GeG: Typ < 150 dB/km at 2.78 μm < 400 dB/km at 2.94 μm
Operation wavelengths (<1dB/m):
  • ZFG: 0.32-4.3µm
  • IFG: 0.335-5.3µm
  • GeG: 2.78 and 2.94µm

This mode scrambling fibers were developed for the SPIRou and SPIP projects and are now integrated in a near infrared spectropolarimeter and a high precision velocimeter.
