LVF offers a new range of germanate GeO2 multimode fibers for Er:YAG lasers (2.94 µm emission) and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers (2.78 µm emission) power handling and pigtailing. These lasers are widely used in surgery and dentistry.
GeG (Germanium oxide GeO2 based Glass) = germanate fibers.
- GeG optical fibers ensures longer and higher power handling that fluoride fibers (both ZBLAN and fluoroaluminate) around 2.7-3.0 µm.
This is why those fibers are widely used to fiber couple lasers such as Er-YAG or Er-YSGG. - Each fiber is qualified for high power handling by injecting 600 mJ pulses @ 2.78 µm to ensure long life.
Note the refractive index of such glasses is around 1.91, and induce 9.8% Fresnel losses per face.
Such fibers are typically used as 2 m long segment, find below the corresponding transmission :
